New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

I did a little blog reading this afternoon...so far behind...and am so excited to see that most of my "Creative Friends" are well into great projects. So where am I? I haven't touched the sewing machine in three weeks. And it will probably be another one before I get 'round toit. But I have learned a lot about altering photos. My blog has turned into a scrapbook instead of a quilt book! I hope that as time goes by I can mix and mingle my projects again.

In the meantime, it's February. Almost time to order the 2010 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival poster. The posters aren't available until May, but we have to get an order in early or these limited edition posters are all gone! We've been collecting them for about 30 years. Yep! The house is full. It's my Jazz Fest Art Gallery/Quilt Art Gallery with a little room for sofa and bed. Oh, yes, I had to leave the TV for HuMAN!

So, I was thinking about my favorite Jazz Fest Posters. While George Rodrique's "Blue Dog" trilogy is not my favorite...I really think it is my favorite. He spotlights Al Hirt, Pete Fountain and Louis Armstrong. Three talented artists I still enjoy.

But anyway, back to February. It's the shortest month of the year that seems like the longest. I don't mind cold weather, but brrrrr, it's been hanging on. I've even thrown another towel around the two cat's beds that adopted us.....not the beds, the cats! The towels were thrown over the beds, not the cats! The cats adopted us, not their beds! Enough.

Because it has been so cold outside, and I was thinking about posters, and specifically "Blue Dog" posters, and specifically Louis Armstrong....I heard "hello dolly, this is louis, dolly, it's so nice...." last night....today I found some notable quotes of Louis Armstrong.

"IF YOU AIN'T GOT IT IN YA, YA CAN'T BLOW IT OUT." I think he is saying, you gotta love who you are and what you're doing!

and how about....."NEVER PLAY A THING THE SAME WAY TWICE!" Now that's a quote to live by. Wouldn't we have excitement in our lives if we were willing to try something different. I need to remember to make this a new year's resolution next year!

And then, my favorite - "THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE THAT IF THEY DON'T KNOW, YOU CAN'T TELL THEM." Don't we all know this person!

That pretty much takes care of my Monday. How was yours?

Dinner menu - French Onion Soup for a cold winter night. Yum Yum.

  2. Hi Marty, I've always loved the blue dog poster art. I once saw a spot on the Sunday Morning Program about the artist. You watchin" football this weekend?
