Edyta Sitar's Tree of Life Quilt Block

It took a bit of concentration.  Using all scraps and Mary B. Hayes' Thangles to complete an Edyta Sitar Tree of Life block from her book Friendship Strips and Scraps.  I might want to consider the fabric used in the tree trunk when placing the half-square triangles that touch it.  A couple of them are too similar in color and probably need to have more contrast.  Time is marching on!

  1. Nice block! The brown triangles just look like branches to me.

  2. Mmm, that's so pretty! I did the entire forest WITH Edyta on a quilt cruise last year aboard the Oasis of the Seas. She is SO SWEET and the other two teachers, Sandy Klopp and Lynne Hagemeier, were wonderful as well!!

  3. What a lovely pattern. It would be a good one to use to embroider family names on "leaves" with surname on the "trunk." Love it.

    Happy Sunday from Port Canaveral,

  4. LOVELY! I absolutely LOVE a Tree of Life block!! Have you heard of "Triangulations" CD? You can print out your OWN HST papers in ANY SIZE NEEDED! It is much cheaper than purchasing "Thangles" if you use them very much. Let me know if you are interested and I can give you more into on how to get it. I use this all the time. I am making a Farmer's Wife quilt with a gazillion half-square triangle units of various sizes... it would be a real pain without the Triangulations software.

  5. I haven't tried the Thangles I bought a couple years ago. I love this block! I can't tell any problem with your fabric around the trunk. You are inspiring me to try the Thangles.
