Perfect Mitered Corner: A Quilt Story
Did you hear me scream? A scream of joy when I cut the thread and pulled this quilt top off the sewing machine to see this perfect mitered corner. I almost choked on my scream of joy! And the other three corners were just as nice. Some fabric designs just demand to be mitered and this black and cream stripe was one of them.
Just pull your scraps and start sewing. I used a fabric foundation to keep things on the straight and narrow. The finished scrap block measures 6" x 11". Then I added my hand dyed borders to each scrap block.
My design wall is just too small to get the entire quilt pictured. However, I'm not complaining. There was a time when I had no design wall! This one measures 58" x 66". Now, it's off the wall and into the hands of one of my favorite long arm quilters.
This quilt block is from Dianne Springer's Scrap-O-Lator Quilts and More. Like Dianne, this book is such fun. Dianne just has a way with words and descriptions....the proof is in the pudding: aka known as Threads from my Head.
My lap quilt varies somewhat from Dianne's design: I put the red corner stones in between the center blocks to give the eye some relief from the stripe.

......when Mira of Crisp PhotoWorks posted about how to make your own faux macro shot even if you don't have a macro lens (which I don't). Of course, it's not really a macro image as in Lisa Gordon's macros, but they can be a good not bad for the first time likeness.
Here's mine:
I had to do a bit of adjusting from Mira's instructions since I have PSE.....no lens blur filter. But using the Gaussian blur reved up to high, I was able to accomplish just about the same thing as Mira suggested. And, just think of the money I've just saved on a new camera/lens. More fabric....YES!
And now I can go sit on the porch and enjoy the rest of my Friday afternoon. Hope your weekend is filled with good things.

to sew before the weekend activities are upon me!

The Type Mask is one of those tools I seldom use and I really don't know why, because it's magic. But Mira of CrispPhotoWorks recently posted an easy tutorial on how to cut text out of an image, which prompted me to give it a go! Fun.
Heritage Quilt Guild Show & Tell
It was a day to remember. I was asked to do the Heritage Quilt Guild (Jonesboro, Louisiana) program and came away with memories and photos of the chapter members' show and tell.
I withheld the name of each quilter to protect the innocent: What that means is that my memory doesn't serve me well! My sincere apologies to all these wonderful quilters for my lapse in name recall.

Dianne Springer designs, some my hand dyes, some off the fabric shop shelf, that I want to put into a quilt. I think this pattern will do nicely.
I'll use these for my 10 large blocks like in the top of Laura's quilt. Should be plenty left to make the mid-size blocks also.
I also have Laurel Burch's Flying Colors II (I found a link to it here).....a yard of which I won as a door prize at our last Piney Hills Quilt Guild meeting. Hannah of Hannah's Quilts and Crafts did the program and she generously donated these flying beauties, i.e. hummingbirds, et al.
I think I'll cut each butterfly and hummingbird block and use them as the smaller blocks that are in the bottom of Laura's quilt.
Yep......sounds good to me, now I'll get out of my computer chair and into my sewing chair and finish my Friday in this fun-filled fabric dusty room.
