Quilt Guild and Trapunto and Quilts and Purses

May has arrived and I'm already late. Received my NLQG newsletter this morning which reminded me that I never posted about our last meeting. We have so much talent in our little corner of the world. Kay Thode demonstrated how to do trapunto quilting. She took us step-by-step so we could see how do-able this technique can be...

...and she provided us with printed instructions and a design...oh boy!

I haven't made a trapunto block yet, but did allow a little trapunto to give my self-portrait some botox. I'm loving it...no facial wrinkles. And I even penciled (or rather...stitched)in eyebrows. It was the lovely Barbara Bush that said (I paraphrase)..."no telling where I could have gone in life if I had eyebrows." Isn't that just a hoot?
Derby Day...as soon as I add a hatpin, she'll be ready with the best of them!
Okay, back on track here, I wasn't finished with the kudos to Kay...

Kay's talents don't stop there either. She is also a long arm quilter and can make a quilt look like a work of art. Here's one she quilted for me.
I hope you can see her exquisite quilting in this closeup.

"Flowers In The Wind" quilt pattern came out of The Best Of Black Mountain Quilts
This is just one of several I have made from this book. I highly recommend it for those of you who brag about a well-stocked quilter's library.

Hey, and catch the new badge on my sidebar. Quilters Blog - where you can read from many quilt related blogs from quilters in one place! Check it out.

I would be remiss if I didn't show you another purse I made from the edited version that I found here...In My Spare Time...she has a lot of fun in her spare time. Thanks, Sarah, for the inspiration.

Here's her purse
And here is my edited copy
Boy, did I ramble today. Hugs till later,

  1. Swoon! Not the quilting, which I am sure is lovely, but the pattern. One of the best, in my opinion, but rarely seen! Could have something to do with the fact that it was the first hand applique design I used. (Also the first one I modified!)

  2. Judy, I tried to find your modified design....is it in your archives...what date? Truly a fun quilt to make - 'cause I could use so many different fabrics with such abandon.
