Remember the other day I mentioned that I wanted to use some of my favorite greens in a project. Well, today I cut a few slices off some of them, rummaged around in my scrap pile for other fabrics to mingle in and voila, here is an art quilt work-in-progress. I even patched together some of my greens for the backing and hanging sleeve. I really couldn't tell which was top and bottom of this one until I found those little batik triangles and placed them as windmills. Now, it seems to have more direction and makes more sense (to me anyway). I think the name of this one will be "High Energy Level." Agree? I'll post this one with final dimensions, etc. when completed.
When working with such small pieces of fabric, my favorite tools are Pellon Wonder Under and the applique pressing sheet.
Hugs for now.
Hooray for wonder under! I buy it by the bolt. Do you sew around the edges when you are done?
ReplyDeleteYes, I buy it by the bolt also, as evidenced by my picture bolt.....I'm still the traditional binder. Even when I put lots of stuff on my art quilts, I still attach the fabric binding. Thanks for reading my blog. If you enjoy and know of others who might, please pass it on. I am new to this and need the exposure to my ads. Great day to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with Pellon Wonder Under, but I've been looking for this applique sheet and now I find it here on your website! Looking forward to seeing your artquilt finished :0)
ReplyDeleteYes, Sandra, Wonder Under is a must if you work with little pieces of fabric. Especially good when doing applique. Laura Wasiloski is the pro at fusing fabric. Check her out. Great quilter with great books published about her fusing techniques.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Marty! I love art quilts and I'd love to see this finished too - how big will it be? I too make good use of Wonder Under and wondered what I ever did without my pressing sheet!

Hi, Angela....and thanks for checking out my new venture....my blog. This little artsy quilt is approximately 12"x18". I'm almost finished with the binding and will post it when done. This one is getting my artistic juices going again.

Hi Marty,
ReplyDeleteWhen I said "sew around the edges," I meant the edges of the pieces you have fused. I feel that at some point these pieces will start to come up. I do tack mine down in one way or another. If you are in the mood, there is a new post on my blog with an example. How is it going with that AsSense thing?
Oh, yes. I like to use the raw-edge applique technique. That is, I shorten the stitch length on my Bernina, and sew down about 1/8"-1/4" from the fabric edge. In this case, I used a decorative metallic silver/gray thread.
ReplyDeleteAdSense is going slowly...I'm working on getting my exposure up. That will help. Have a great day. Hugs. Marty
fantastic art quilt. show us more!
ReplyDeleteI love the mingling of all these fabrics...and the windmills you've added! Nothing like wonder under!
